Forests play a crucial role in the hydrological cycle, influencing water availability and quality, as well as reducing water-related risks such as landslides, local floods and droughts. Forested watersheds and wetlands supply 75% of the world’s accessible freshwater for human and ecological needs. This special session will highlight the need to mainstream an integrated approach to forest and water resources management and policy. The occasion provides an opportunity to present a forest-water monitoring framework that is under development. Participants are invited to engage in a workshop to discuss the benefits of such a framework and how best to implement it.
