This Special Session brings together researchers working on cross‐disciplinary themes in the transboundary water resources management and development in the Nile River Basin. The session will focus on how a large‐scale and symbolic hydraulic infrastructure such as the GERD can influence future directions in water resources management and development from multiple perspectives ‐ technical, climate/environment, social, economic, legal, diplomatic and political. The presentations, based on recent developments and associated research, will lay the foundations for an in‐depth facilitated discussion bringing together researchers and policy‐makers.
